Are you travelling from the UK to Belgium this summer? Here's what you need to know:
Step 1: Do I need an Essential Travel Certificate (ETC)?
Option A: you are an EU citizen ->You don't need an ETC.
Option B: you are not an EU citizen -> You need an ETC. In order to get one, please email london.etc@diplobel.fed.be with all relevant documents (see section "Requesting an ETC” here). You will need one certificate per non-EU family member.
Step 2: Do I need to do a PCR test before travelling to Belgium?
Option A: you have a certificate of vaccination recognized by the Belgian authorities -> You don't have to do a PCR test before travelling.
Option B: you don't have a vaccination certificate, or you have a certificate that is not recognized by Belgian authorities (e.g., NHS certificate) ->You need to do a PCR test maximum 72 hours before you are in Belgium. Children from the age of 12 must also do a PCR test.
Step 3: Do I need to fill in a Passenger Locator Form?
Yes, if you are staying in Belgium for more than 48 hours.
Step 4: Do I need to quarantine when I arrive in Belgium?
Option A: you have a certificate of vaccination recognized by the Belgian authorities ->Get tested on day 1 or 2 after your arrival. You must stay in quarantine until the negative result of your test on day 1 or 2.
Option B: you don't have a vaccination certificate, or you have a certificate that is not recognized by Belgian authorities (e.g., NHS certificate)-> You must quarantine for 10 days. Get tested on day 1 and 7 after your arrival in Belgium.
In extremely rare cases, you can be exempted from testing and quarantine. Please check here if you think this may apply to you.
